HSC VET Work Placement

School Based Apprenticeships, School Based Traineeships and Structured Work Placements are all excellent opportunities for students to gain valuable experience in workplaces while still at school.

The latest research from Britain says that school students who have had at least 4 quality interactions with employers are 5 times more likely to be in Education, Employment or Training when they are 19-24. In other words, the more quality experiences you can get with employers while still at school – the better.

Work placement programs are intended for students enrolled in Higher School Certificate (HSC) industry-recognised courses. These vocational education and training (VET) courses may be delivered by your school, a TAFE NSW institute or by a private training provider contracted by the school (e.g. BREED).

Work placement ensures that students spend a period of time as voluntary workers in a relevant workplace.

BREED will work with your school to find suitable work placement for your VET subject. Employers supervise you in the workplace as you practise and extend the specific industry skills you have learned in your course work. These are assessed by your teachers in consultation with the host employer and, in some cases, a qualified workplace assessor.

Students achieving competency receive an industry-specific VET qualification that is recognised throughout Australia. This will provide you with an extra qualification when you apply for a job, trainee/apprenticeship and higher education.
